Second PETA’s Journal Reflection in The First Week of School Experience

On the first week of school experience, I observed learning activity at mathematics class in XI IPA SMAN 54 Jakarta. After that, I interviewed the teacher on the second week. According to teacher who teaches mathematics in XI IPA, he explained that he used group discussion on him class by made groups to presentation. He used this method because it made students more active and prepared for presentation, although it made delivery of material slower.
Based on my observation on first week, I found that teacher made groups for students with heterogenic characteristic. So each group had a leader and members with different level of intelligence. It means that students made peer tutorial by group work. For the assessments, he used individual and group assessments. Individual assessments used when students answering the questions, post test, daily test and homework, whereas group assessments used when students made presentation and short paper of material in presentation.
Based on my observation, I found that teacher could adaptable times and learning material. He adapted learning material with students’ skill. So I found that each class had different times for delivery of material. In class XI IPA 1, the material of probability finished faster than another class.
On the second week, I also had an opportunity to do team teaching with my friends. Actually, I did it on first and second week. We arranged the lesson plan for team teaching activity. The material was trigonometry for first meeting in class XI IPA with 90 minutes duration.  
The basic competence was used the formula sinus and cosinus of two angles, the difference of two angles, double angles to calculate the sinus and cosinus of the angle, whereas the indicators were applied sinus and cosinus formula of the sum and difference of two angles. From the basic competence and indicators, we determined the learning objectives. The learning objectives were students able to prove and use cosinus and sinus formula of the sum and difference of two angles.
For tasks in my lesson plan were students did group discussion to make two examples from the formula of trigonometry and they could answered the questions about trigonometry used smart cards games. We used 2 stay 3 stray to show the result of students’ discussion and a games for answered question.
Based on our lesson plan, we did team teaching. I thought that our lesson was succeeded, although we still over times in learning activities. From the activity, I learnt how to adapted with new students, how to managed times for learning activities and many others. In the next times, I would more attention to manage times and more prepared than before.
