That was a surprise that actually teaching a big class is not easy as we see as usual in the class. Teach 1 student is very different with teach a whole class. Teach 1 student is easier than teach whole class. Why? In my experience as private teacher, 1, 2 or 3 students, they can still study obediently. But teaching a whole class we need to be very patient to make the students obedient. I have taught in 2 classes, in XA and XD. In XA I have teach twice but in the XD I just teach once. Actually I have taught with my partner Putra, the first time we taught in XA, there were many problems that we found. About the LCD and Projector that didn’t do well because of the cable, so we have a sudden planning that very untidy. Actually our planning is using PowerPoint presentation, but because of the problem so we make the lesson look like very unprepared. And for replace the PPT we have wrote anything in whiteboard, we lost many time and finally we look like unprepared. From this experience I can conclude that we must really prepare well before the class, like checking the cable or anything else. And as a teacher we must have a second planning and we have to handle the class. I and Putra mostly using actively activity for the students like 2 stay 3 stray but we got advice from the teacher that we shouldn’t use this method because of in her opinion the method like 2 stay 3 stray just wasting the time.
Yeah……as we all know that grade X in senior high school is so active (little bit naughty), and little bit hard to be handle. But we have a way to take their attention like when we called…”class!!!!!!!!!!!” they were answer “yes….” Look like when Ms. Nenden called us when we so noisy. And it is very effective in my class. Another way to take their attention with clapping once or twice while said “Please attention”. In our class we have work discussion that students must do the question in group. From this activity if they have a problem, they will raise their hand and ask to us. With give a chance to ask we make certainty they get the solving from us and understand with our explanation.
From the students we got mostly good feedback. Maybe because they haven’t work in group or 2 stay 3 stray. They said that they like and enjoyed with this activity. But some of them said that my explanation is too fast and little bit make them confuse. And they said they want us to be a teacher there for long time. And Feedback, from the teacher is we must make a good preparation and we must make review in the last of lesson and also we should find other methods that make the students active but still affective. Ms Eva, as a teacher gave advice that sometime we need to be very serious in teaching, but also we need group discussion. Ms Eva have be a teacher about 24 years since she was young in 1897 in that school. She said to be teacher is not easy, she have told us about her experience as a teacher that she find many difficulties.
From this great school experience I can learn that actually to be a teacher is not easy. We must make our preparation well, make a lesson plan first, make students understand with their many characteristic, and should be have good behavior, and we should choose the right method from the lesson. If I have a chance to teach there again I will check the cable first, because I’m trauma about it, and make preparation well, and choose the right method.
