School Experience week 2


Hello guys... How is your teaching at school which you visited? It is addictive, isn't it? I think all of us is little sad when we have to go from that school after doing school experience for two weeks (-___-)'!I
 

As we know, in the second week, we have to implement our lesson plan. And my lesson plan cannot run well because of moving class system. Do you remember about my reflection before? It is about moving class condition. The students came late almost 15 minutes in every meeting. Can you imagine that? (According to me, school must re-think about moving class system and its effect.) And unfortunately, I did not have another plan about learning process. Consequently, I teach in hurry because of limited time. 

Moreover, in SMAIT Nurul Fikri, the duration for learning is not 90 minutes like usual that happen in the other schools but only 80 minutes. And the effect of this condition is my lesson plan cannot run well included the material cannot be delivered well. Some students complain that I teach very fast. But I got so many lessons from that condition. As a great teacher, next we have to prepare another lesson plan or at least make a lesson plan that flexible with the condition where we have to smart in choosing or eliminating some activities which is not too crucial so the material still can be completely delivered.

 Another problem that I got when I was implementing my lesson plan was, the time that students need in doing each activity is out of my prediction. Maybe it happens because I don’t know the characteristics of students well in catching the material. That’s why I can exactly predict time that they need to do discussion, to make a note, to understand the lesson, to do assignment, and etc. From this experience, I know that next is so important for the teacher to know the characteristic of students well and adjusting every activity in the class accordance to the characteristics of students. For teaching in the first time, I felt very bad. But time by time, everything became better. I know the characteristic of students and success in doing adaptation with them. Finally the lesson plan can run well. So happy see the students happy study with me, and of course understand about the material. That's why, it is so sad to leave them when we were became closer.

 Hot issues that we often discuss at campus happened at school that I visited. The title of my master teacher is S.Si, not S.Pd. That’s why he did not too concern about the learning method. The most important thing for him is about the content, how the students can understand the material well. He does not too agree when I implemented fun learning. According to them, the students only focus to the fun, not to the content. Whereas, I tried to build students’ interests in mathematics. If they interested in learning math, they will enjoy the process even the process maybe complicated, they will be fun even the more concentration are needed in learning math.

However I learn so many lessons from him especially about delivering contents. They have amazing way in making review and organizing the content to be delivered in order to make the students easy to understand. He knows how to connect the new material with students’ prior knowledge in order to make a flow of learning became enjoyable. So, to be a complete teacher in facilitating students, it is reprimand for us as a candidate of teacher that besides mastering the pedagogies skill, we also have to mastering the content well although the content is not as deep as them whose title S. Si.

My Reflection on 2nd of School Observation

On second week of my observation at Senior high school 12 Jakarta is very amazing because I have lot experience during I did school observation. I have chance three times to did taught in class of my experience second week because in first week we have one times to taught in class because as schedule we should have four times to taught. On second week my observation my pair and I have made two lesson plans it so made us confused to prepare activity that we want to teach in class room because I saw every class have different style to learn. When we taught in X4  class, I saw this class interest when we show some video to them about the material that we want teach but the other class dislike about it. So we must make some different activity for make students interest when we teach.
My pair and I make three lesson plans for two week of my observation. One lesson plan for first week and two lesson plan for on second week. Previously I also have confused to make lesson plan because when I practice to made lesson plan in campus was some different when we made in this school. Nevertheless different with this school with that we got in campus about how make lesson plan but this time we should make lesson plan same with this school because we didn’t have right to made different lesson plan. So during we did school observation, we have made lesson plan “silabus berkarakter” for our teaching and learning in class. The different between silabus berkarakter with lesson plan that I have learned was in term of indicators and objective of learning. The indicators and objective of silabus berkarakter is very complicated for me because too many kind of assessment in there but overall it same with the lesson plan that I have learn.  
When we did interview with our master teacher about learning method, she is using discussion instruction, direct instruction, and structured. From the answer, I think the learning method that she is using is very interest and effective so when I becoming a teacher I can follow this way batter for my teaching and learning process.
At the end of my reflection I just want to say “everybody has different style to learn so as a teacher must to know about that for make students interest to learnt especially math.

New schema... New Spirit


This is really great experience! I have a new schema of myself.
At the beginning of the PETA class, I have say that I don’t have a passion of being teacher, but I believe someday I’ll find my way for loving this profession. This is the time, my first experience teaching at big class of high school students. I have discussed with the master teacher of the lesson plan, she always said to give exercises and quiz for checking the students’ understanding. At that time, I’m asking in silence why it is a must. Based on my experience in study, SSE has teach me to becoming new generation of teacher and assess the students by high order thinking skills, the assessment needs at this level is not just assessed from pencil and paper test. I want to complain, but the teacher has show me that teaching in this school have to refer to the syllabus and rules of teaching.  So, I just keep silence and continue design the lesson plan based on the teacher want, but I still enter the grouping and games for variety the teaching methods. 

Then I teaching with my team, we have good preparation although we are so nervous. We have organized all, but we still have problem. Then we and the master teacher discuss the teaching experience, we have problem at the time organization. The teacher said that we have many activities with many methods and the students didn’t accustom to the grouping, so the activities is out of the time. In my opinion, the activities are effective because the students have found the formula by their own selves, and they enjoy the step, that is proven by their reflection in reflection flipchart. That is true, that the grouping methods need more time. My conclusion of the problem is the grouping methods is good for build students’ concept understanding but we have to prepare much time for it, and then in another meeting we have to use the others methods for variety the teaching.

It is similar with the master teacher’s opinion about the teaching and learning process when she was interviewed. The teacher said that as a teacher we should aware with students’ need, the teaching and learning process is based on the students needs, and it is flexible based on the materials brings. When the situation is out of control we have to use other teaching methods, we choose the best methods for the students. The conclusion is when we are being a teacher we have to aware and we have to be smart in applying the teaching learning methods, we must variety the methods and being closed to the students.

That is the reason I said that I have find my passion, I’m happy knowing someone, I enjoy have a conversation with others, and the point is when I’m on the stage as a teacher, I feel as princess who was waited to share the knowledge and let them do something fun for understand deeply about the knowledge shared.

The last week in school experince at SMAN 43


The second week in SMAN 43JAKSEL, I feeling still the same as the first week still happy to teach in the classroom, the children added friendly. One class that is considered  most naughty responded positively to we teach in their class. And its class is also more conducive atmosphere in the appeal the first week, because we do approach favored by the students in the teaching, we deliver the material with a very fun and we do ice breaking, without forgetting that we want to achieve the target so as to make the students easy to understand, for example students understand about the material we teach as we hope. and to test their understanding, we do assessment of students work on task questions. But sometimes students are not too fond of the task that much, they always complain if we give the task of each meeting. But we too confused to give liveliness to assess students in the class seemed hard to see that so many students and sometimes makes us confused to judge. if we not give assignment like that

Before the  lesson taught to start we have to prepare in advance the lesson plan, and summarize the material to be conveyed in the form of power point. and in delivering learning materials we tried a method that had us a lesson on campus, and here we try to use two methods where we used, the method of lecture and group discussion methods lectures discussion on the use to make students better understand to material, because they are expected to focus on what we say, and then this method of group discussion I think good to make students more active, because this method directly involve the students to solve problems and train them to work together to solve problems and the averages their loved this method. Because we can  seen from a students reflection. And I felt very happy  for their enthusiasm. And in  my dream to become a teacher. From this experience I get a lot of lessons that are useful, for example, turns out to be a teacher  is not only well, but mastered content skills to manage a class is also very important, as well as learning approach that we use must be in line with the wishes of students. and for me this is a special experience for later when it will be really be a teacher. and another one that I learned in SMAN 43 is that they have hours of cleaning in which the goal as a forum for special services to students who still do not understand the material to ask the teacher learning  material. And I hope that such activities may remain there every year, because i think this program can help student to more understand about material. ^_^

Reflection Teaching Assistant Week 2


In the second week of school experience, I teach that two classes which I have observed last week. Three times teaching at XI IPA and two times teaching at IX IPS. XI IPA 2 consist of 34 students, and XI IS 2 about 36 students. My friend in team teaching is Susi dariah. In the first time teaching at science class without preparation, because the teacher have meeting when we come to the class to observe her teaching and learning process. Susi and me just teaching by direct instruction method or lecturing. We didn’t make any lesson plan. We must teach about inverse function. In another time and class, we prepared well for teaching. As a new teacher, we want to know the students understanding about the concept. So, we use review before we teach the core of material. We using different method for review in each class, like using video, lecturing, or quiz. Actually we also use different instructional methods, but the students looks like use direct instruction. I have tried to use lecturer discussion. When I asked to the students, they didn’t say anything and keep silent in their seat. Another method that we use is group discussion. In here, just some of student in group want to ask we if they didn’t understand or they work for their group. The other students in group just silent and rewrite their friends work. The core of our lesson, we use lecturing method. But we assess them by different methods. The most favorite method for me is you making a problem and solves your friend’s problem. In the end of class, we implement varieties reflection method. Such as drawing their motion, writing their suggestion, and write their message. Another fact that the teacher in that school just teaching from textbook, and he/she never make a lesson plan or reflection in the end of the class. He think that in the first time teaching we need to use lesson plan, but not for him, because he is an old teacher. So, he absolutely knew the step of material or the level to teach.     
                All of them are part of my learning process. Know from real life situation, I think as a teacher candidate, I must improve my skill in teaching and manage the class. Mathematics in the student’s mind is difficult subject. They didn’t know how to use mathematics in the real life. It is challenge for me and the other mathematics teacher candidates. I think when they know the useful mathematics; it can improve their self motivation to learning math.  

The Last Memoriam in 12

Week 2 in Senior High School 12, it was not different in week 1. But, in week 2, we taught three times. I was very confused to prepare our lesson plan in 3 class, because in that class have different topic with another class. We (Eli and I) have to make 3 lesson plan in week 2. Same with cases in week 1 when we observed the class, we found, students almost never active when teaching and learning process. They just listened explaining their teacher about material. After that, interaction between teacher and students and students with students we looked seldom done in the class. When I found that cause, it was because the time that school never enough to teaching and learning mathematics to be effective.

This is to be our base to develop a lesson plan which there are students’ activity and make interaction between teacher and students and also students with students. In our lesson plan, we used activity such as quiz with game and group discussion because we want students develops their knowledge together with their friends. But it still difficult because habitual of students just listen and do the homework not in pair or group. This was like me when I school in High School. Teacher just gave explain about the material and gave the exercise to students with worked not pair or group. This method have weakness in students understanding because just little bite of students understood about the topic but another students just little or cannot understood about the goal of the material. So, my friend and I have initiative to make group discussion and the result of this activity, we more understood about the topic. So, I use this method in my lesson plan although we (Eli and I) must hard work to develop students to be active.

After that, because we use RPP Berkarakter Bangsa, we have implemented it into our lesson plan, such as we developed students to be trust with their group, responsibility with the others and etc. I like this lesson plan because we not only just reflect about the material but also we have done develop students behavior.

In this last paragraph, I just want to say thank you for students and the teachers and also staff in SMA Negeri 12 Jakarta because in that place I got new knowledge and experiences and the last sentence, I will remember about what my master teacher said “Jangan hanya fokus pada isi konten dari materi tapi perdalami apa karakter dan watak siswa belajar terlebih dahulu”.

E-Reflection week 6 Principle of effective teaching and assessment


Hemt,,,It was too fast the time passed by. You know that it was such only a few minutes past I set my foot in this school to do observation and being a teacher assistant and now I have to back to my routines as usual. Yes, back to my beloved campus and get ready to meet some assignments that sometimes make me get a headache. Hahaha…. It was such my extraordinary experience and never been forgotten.  I felt that the students were extraordinary, exciting, challenging and I love their innocence, their simple joys and also their fresh eyes as they look at the world. It makes me feel comfort in this school and have a great wish to stay in this school for a long time.  And one more thing is I want to say my gratitude to my mentor teacher. Her caring and her openheartedness moved and inspired me. :)

Talking about what lesson that I got from this activity is actually about how make me as a teacher candidate more familiar with the school environment, prepare my mental to face students with different learning style and of course try to apply my content pedagogical knowledge in order to create an effective teaching and learning process. As you know that by this activity I feel I am moving forward in my formal education. I have learned about what kind of learning styles and how to structure a lesson, unit and year and how to execute those structures. It was pretty hard for the first. But the more I practice to structure the lesson and then execute those structures, the more I get to used it and it is not difficult anymore for me. This experience really helps me in maintain my passion to be an effective teacher. I remember when I did team teaching for the third time in class X6. Surprisingly after the class was finished, some of students said to me that they like our style and the way we teach. Then, they suggested us to join in their school and teach them for mathematic course until they graduate from the school. Hemt,,I was really glad to hear that. Hahahah,,, It was such a pep vitamin for me and finally my sacrifice is not useless . JOf course you know that teaching is no small undertaking, but I am confident that I will remain dedicated, activated and energetic. I still believe that teaching is an essential profession and I have to make at least a few children’ educational experiences more nurturing and productive than my own had been. 

.    At the end of this paper, I just want to say that I am feeling much more knowledgeable in the art and science of education.  I will be ready to bring my passion to whatever opportunities that are given.  I am excited by the learning opportunities that await me and I am grateful for the chance to make the lives of a few children just a tad bit better.
