“The art of questioning is one of the basic skills a good teaching” Socrates.


I got some new knowledge again from the last session of PETA. Last meeting we have learned about two types of question feedback that are convergent and divergent questioning. The type of questioning is also important for us to know because it’s useful when we give some question to our students. Such as when we give some instruction and assignment or when we do some discussion, we should give a good question to our students because through good questioning teachers can extract not only factual information, but aid learners in: connecting concepts, making inferences, increasing awareness, encouraging creative and imaginative thought, aiding critical thinking processes, and generally helping learners explore deeper levels of knowing, thinking, and understanding.
I want to share to you all, have you ever found some question in paper and pencil test like: mention and explain …bla..bla…”? If we are students and we will solve the problem, I think we can’t answer it although we know the answer because we don’t know how to solve. From this experience, I have learn that if we give some question, we should give contextual question.

As we know, there are two kinds of assessment that is formative and summative assessment. Formative assessment is “all those activities undertaken by teachers and by the students in assessing themselves, which provide information to be used as feedback to modify the teaching and learning activities in which they are engaged” Black and William (1998).
Summative assessment is typically used to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs and services at a pre determine time. Examples of formative assessment are posttest, pretest, reflection, class participant, etc. Examples of summative assessment are UAN, UMPTN, Test STAN, UAS, etc.
Actually in a test that can include formative and summative assessment that to distinguish is the goals and times. According to me, both of kinds of assessment are effective but in summative assessment if we fail in this test we feel very disappointed. Example UAN, we have three years to learn but when we failed the test we very disappointed because within three years is only determine within a week. Is not fair, right?

My reflection on 7th meeting of PETA

Hemm,… For this meeting of PETA, I felt very effective because we have chance to sharing about our teaching assistant. I didn’t knew why for this meeting was very enjoy whether because of mister Budi was there in our class or because of in this session we have told about teaching assistant.  
Hearing of sharing about teaching assistant, almost we have told about lesson plan method of learning. Actually, what are lesson study / plan? According Miss Nendean said that, lesson study is plan, do and reflection. Components of an instructional/ lesson plan includes: objective, subject mater, materials, procedures or lesson plan development, evaluation, and assignment.
We also have tens steps involved in developing a lesson plan as well as adescription of what each component should be: Consider what you want teach, develop clear and specific objectives what you want to teach, find what material you are going to use later, write an anticipatory set, write the step-by-step procedures that action the teacher needs to perform, provide time for independent practice and solving problems, should have some sort of closure for the lesson pla, make your assesment, adaptions should be made for students with learning, connections section.
Essence, I think there is no one best strategies or lesson plan to use in teaching. The best is that what which brings about maximum or optium learning. We also consider to choice of method or strategy. The factors that we want consider when we choice the method are: instructional objectives, nature of subject matter, characteristics of learners, teachers, and school policies, ison, and mission.

My Reflection on 2nd of School Observation

On second week of my observation at Senior high school 12 Jakarta is very amazing because I have lot experience during I did school observation. I have chance three times to did taught in class of my experience second week because in first week we have one times to taught in class because as schedule we should have four times to taught. On second week my observation my pair and I have made two lesson plans it so made us confused to prepare activity that we want to teach in class room because I saw every class have different style to learn. When we taught in X4  class, I saw this class interest when we show some video to them about the material that we want teach but the other class dislike about it. So we must make some different activity for make students interest when we teach.
My pair and I make three lesson plans for two week of my observation. One lesson plan for first week and two lesson plan for on second week. Previously I also have confused to make lesson plan because when I practice to made lesson plan in campus was some different when we made in this school. Nevertheless different with this school with that we got in campus about how make lesson plan but this time we should make lesson plan same with this school because we didn’t have right to made different lesson plan. So during we did school observation, we have made lesson plan “silabus berkarakter” for our teaching and learning in class. The different between silabus berkarakter with lesson plan that I have learned was in term of indicators and objective of learning. The indicators and objective of silabus berkarakter is very complicated for me because too many kind of assessment in there but overall it same with the lesson plan that I have learn.  
When we did interview with our master teacher about learning method, she is using discussion instruction, direct instruction, and structured. From the answer, I think the learning method that she is using is very interest and effective so when I becoming a teacher I can follow this way batter for my teaching and learning process.
At the end of my reflection I just want to say “everybody has different style to learn so as a teacher must to know about that for make students interest to learnt especially math.

E-reflection School Experience

Hemmm, teaching assistance? What is it?
I think the teaching assistant is a program where we only assist our master teachers in teaching but the fact we have to teach himself without the aid of  the master teacher.
I am very pleased with this program because with this program can made me gallant and confident when i become a teacher later because previously i still doubt whather i can or not to be a teacher later. My master teacher in this teaching assistant told us we should be grateful because weare stiil on 3th semester but we have jumped to school to make teaching practice in the class and is not like me used teaching practice inschool could on7th semester.O,ya in my teaching assistant in this time i have in senior high school 12 Jakarta. The location is west Jakarta it’s mean that the location is far from my boarding house so during this program i must reville every morning because this school entrance at 6.30 pm. Incidentally there was one day i was came late to school because i was waking up late but i still can entrance this school. Talk about this school i think this school is very good because i have seen both in terms of infrastructure are very complete like this school have comfortable library, all the classroom have projector is very useful for teaching and learning in class and also this school have radio frequncy itself which publiser is their students itself and also the teacher in this school are very skilled.
When i did observation to my master teacher in calss, i saw she was very good to handle her classroom and i think she also have good skill understand the material but one thing that i want comment to her that is the her students in this class is not active because there was no instruction who make students active in class such as group work, etc. The master teacher taught about quadratic equation using direct instruction without group discussion. Wheres some students want study using group discussion because when i taught, i saw students like studying actively. When i become  teacher i hope i can make effective teaching. But overall the learning process is already good.  
Ohh ya.. the first week in my teaching assistant, we also already have started to teaching in class.Whereas as we know according the scheduled we can started to teaching in second week. Nevertheless everything gone be ok because from the evidance impression written by students in class mostly said their fun and more easily to understand the materialbecausse students are actively involved. But we also realize our teaching process we did still have shortages so every day we also learnt to be a good teacher.
