Reflection Teaching Assistant Week 2


In the second week of school experience, I teach that two classes which I have observed last week. Three times teaching at XI IPA and two times teaching at IX IPS. XI IPA 2 consist of 34 students, and XI IS 2 about 36 students. My friend in team teaching is Susi dariah. In the first time teaching at science class without preparation, because the teacher have meeting when we come to the class to observe her teaching and learning process. Susi and me just teaching by direct instruction method or lecturing. We didn’t make any lesson plan. We must teach about inverse function. In another time and class, we prepared well for teaching. As a new teacher, we want to know the students understanding about the concept. So, we use review before we teach the core of material. We using different method for review in each class, like using video, lecturing, or quiz. Actually we also use different instructional methods, but the students looks like use direct instruction. I have tried to use lecturer discussion. When I asked to the students, they didn’t say anything and keep silent in their seat. Another method that we use is group discussion. In here, just some of student in group want to ask we if they didn’t understand or they work for their group. The other students in group just silent and rewrite their friends work. The core of our lesson, we use lecturing method. But we assess them by different methods. The most favorite method for me is you making a problem and solves your friend’s problem. In the end of class, we implement varieties reflection method. Such as drawing their motion, writing their suggestion, and write their message. Another fact that the teacher in that school just teaching from textbook, and he/she never make a lesson plan or reflection in the end of the class. He think that in the first time teaching we need to use lesson plan, but not for him, because he is an old teacher. So, he absolutely knew the step of material or the level to teach.     
                All of them are part of my learning process. Know from real life situation, I think as a teacher candidate, I must improve my skill in teaching and manage the class. Mathematics in the student’s mind is difficult subject. They didn’t know how to use mathematics in the real life. It is challenge for me and the other mathematics teacher candidates. I think when they know the useful mathematics; it can improve their self motivation to learning math.

hahhaa,,,,I think everybody has the same experience with you in the first time they did team teaching in class. most students are not respect with and they seemed lazy to do some activities created by us or they never give their opinion or their perspective about the concept that we have presented in class,,,hemt,,,

But I believe in you, you can change them and help them to be a bright future candidates in your best way later. As you have said before that as a teacher, we have to improve their self motivation to learn mathematics. Yes, I agree with you. As known that, during did observation and team teaching in SMA 12 Jakarta, I tried to find not only what motivates each student to learn but also what motivates them to misbehave. It was wonderful when I could grab their attention and take away that motivation. You know that I had a chance to feel the moment when I went a long way towards a more effective classroom and learning experience.:)

everybody has different style to learn so as a teacher must to know about that for make students interest to learnt especially math.
